Im trying to get used to having to think back to front in putting this blog together. My introduction is right at the bottom. When you read a book the introduction is the first thing you read. But Im told by the expert in this field that people are lazy and dont like to scroll down a page to read a latest entry. Is this the way it really is? When Im reading a blog, I like to go over old entries to read any comments that people may have submitted and then comment on their comments.
Ive started this blog with an overview of my family as it was a way for me to try out some creative writing, while at the same time letting them know that they are very special to me. The blog expert referred to above thinks that maybe the family blog should be a separate blog from a blog containing opinion writing. Im going to persevere, for the moment, with just one blog as I might be the only person reading it anyway. Ive had this set up for me because I felt a need to have an opinion. If someone happens to read my opinion all well and good but at least I have expressed it. Ive spent most of my life being very careful about expressing an opinion, because Ive been aware that having an opinion can sometimes hurt people’s feelings. But Ive come to the stage in my life that Im really not too worried about it any more.
Im going to persevere with the family theme for a little bit longer as I wish to publish a photo of my parents and Verns parents and Im going to write about my relationship with my parents. Im hoping Vern will do the same with his parents. If I am getting too carried away with the genealogy theme I may think about having a different blog for this.

MY FAMILY
IF PEOPLE WERE PLACES my family would be Mt Everest.
The sherpas would be Mum and Dad guiding our occasionally rebellious and stubborn children by setting reasonable boundaries and leading by example.
The mountain climbers would be our determined children who would strive to achieve the greatest in climbing the slippery slopes of life.
Crevasses are the pitfalls that we all as a family have encountered at some stage in our lives, but have eventually climbed out of.
The ropes holding the climbers together are the bonds that exist in our family that have enabled us all to make this upward journey.
Unfortunately, sometimes the freezing ice, snow and cold winds leads to the death of our ambitions by taking away our self confidence.
However, the stronger climbers are my family who have reached the summit by perseverance, hard work and a positive attitude.
When the summit is conquered the view is amazing. The world is now at your feet.
As you have all reached the summit nothing can take that away from you.
I have unconditional love for all of you.
An original poem by Sally Smith
This is dedicated to Mark and the children in Room 5 at Kaurilands School for giving me inspiration and confidence to try my hand at writing creatively. Mark, you are a legend. I wish you had been my teacher when I was a keen young 10 year old at primary school.

As Im new at blogging I am just experimenting with a few ideas on what I really want on this site. I want to start off with a few family photos but may have to get Raewyn and Russell to supply me with appropriate ones. I would also like to try poem writing but not conventional type poetry. I have been helping a year 6 special needs child at school with writing a certain genre and as she is special needs most of the ideas are coming from me. I am just amazed at how clever most kids are in this class so I have acquired a lot of ideas from them. They have really given me inspiration.
I also want to express my views here on what it is like, from the viewpoint of a novice web user, to have to abide by certain rules when writing emails or when chatting - rules which have been created by peer pressure from other web users.
But anything goes on this site. Contributions from other people would be most appreciated. I feel in the mood for some robust debate also so if my views dont coincide with yours please let me know.
